myfuture is again proud to support National Skills Week which brings to life the positive messages—highlighting the talents, the skills, the career pathways and the value—of apprentices and trainees across Australia to the wider public and employers.

Now in its 5th year, National Skills Week is dedicated to raising the status of practical and vocational learning. This year’s theme will highlight the skills-needs associated with Australia’s emerging areas of opportunity.

Australian Apprenticeships are a key pillar of Australia’s vocational education and training system and are available to anyone of working age. You don’t need a secondary school certificate or other qualification to undertake an Australian Apprenticeship. In fact you can do an Australian Apprenticeship if you are a school-leaver, re-entering the workforce or as an adult worker simply wishing to change careers. You can even begin your Australian Apprenticeship while you’re finishing years 11 and 12 at school.

With an Australian Apprenticeship, you can earn an income while you complete a nationally recognised qualification. It’s a great way to get a head start in your chosen occupation. You can combine time at work with training, either full-time, part-time or even school-based. When you finish your Australian Apprenticeship, you will have a nationally recognised qualification that can take you anywhere in Australia and one that is also held in high regard in many overseas countries. For a few apprentices at the top of their game, you may even be lucky enough to slip on a green and gold jacket and represent Australia as a Skillaroo at the WorldSkills competition.

Apprenticeships are available for over 500 occupations in a variety of certificate levels, in traditional trades and in all sorts of emerging occupations in most sectors of business and industry.

Check out the National Skills Week website to find out what events are running in your region. There are events taking place all over Australia throughout August, culminating in the official recognition week from 24 to 30 August.
